Kotor Restaurant Guide
Kotor is a city that rewards the curious. Step beyond the most obvious paths and you’ll find a dining scene that’s genuinely varied – from seafood by the water to mountain-influenced dishes that have been on Montenegrin tables for generations. There’s something for every appetite and every occasion.
And as far as us at Resto Bar Taraca goes. Well, we’re here every day, we care deeply about the food we serve, and we want every guest who walks through our door to leave having had exactly the kind of meal they were hoping for.
What to Expect From Restaurants in Kotor
Montenegrin food is a slow-moving blend of Balkan, Venetian, and Ottoman influences. You’ll find grilled meats, fresh Adriatic fish, mountain cheeses, and dishes built around local produce that changes with the season. Kotor’s restaurant scene covers this broad territory well, and the city has something to offer at every price point and every time of day.
- Kotor rewards exploration. Some of the most memorable meals happen just a short walk from the main squares. The city’s dining scene extends well beyond its most visited corners.
- Dining outside the Old Town walls tends to be a better value. The proximity to the historic centre stays the same, but you often get more space, a quieter setting, and very competitive prices.
- Vegetarian and vegan options have grown significantly. Kotor has evolved. Plant-based dining is no longer an afterthought, and several restaurants have built serious menus around it.
Resto Bar Taraca: A Kotor Restaurant for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Resto Bar Taraca opened in 2021 with a simple idea – a place where the food is genuinely good, the setting is calm and beautiful, and every guest feels welcome from the moment they arrive. Five years later, that’s still what we’re about (with some upgrades thanks to you who visit daily).
We sit just outside Kotor’s North Gate, a two-minute walk from the Old Town. The terrace runs along the Škurda River with a view up toward the fortress walls. It’s one of those spots that feels like a discovery, even though it’s right there. The interior is calm and intimate, suited to couples, small groups, and anyone who wants to take their time over a meal.
The kitchen blends Montenegrin roots with a more contemporary approach. Every dish is made with care, using good ingredients, and the menu genuinely covers all dietary preferences – meat, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options all get the same attention in the kitchen.

Lunch in Kotor: Take Your Time by the River
Lunch at Taraca is one of those meals where you arrive thinking you’ll be quick, and then find yourself staying a little longer than planned. The riverside terrace, the shade, the space between tables – it all adds up to an experience that feels genuinely relaxing.
The lunch menu balances lighter options – fresh salads, homemade soups – with more substantial mains. The vegan and vegetarian dishes are crafted with the same attention as everything else on the menu. The burgers are made properly, with quality ingredients throughout.
Plant-based dining is something we take seriously at Taraca – the options here are designed to be genuinely satisfying, not just present on the menu.
Dinner in Kotor: Atmosphere That Arrives Naturally
As evening comes in, Taraca shifts into something a little different. The lighting softens, the river reflects the last of the daylight, and the fortress walls above begin to glow. It happens every night, and it never gets old.
The dinner menu moves into richer territory: Curry Chicken, Beefsteak with Truffle, and desserts worth saving room for. The service in the evening is attentive and unhurried – the kind of pace that lets a meal breathe, and a conversation go wherever it wants to go.
Whether it’s a first night in Kotor or a last, a date or a solo dinner, this is a setting that delivers without trying too hard.

What is traditional Montenegrin food?
Montenegrin cuisine draws from Balkan, Venetian, and Ottoman traditions. At Taraca, we weave these traditions into our menu alongside more contemporary dishes.

How far is Taraca from Kotor Old Town?
About a two-minute walk from the North Gate. If you’re entering or leaving the Old Town via that exit, you’ll pass right by us. No taxi needed, no navigation required – just a short and pleasant walk with a noticeably different atmosphere waiting at the end of it.
Do Kotor restaurants need reservations?
